Thousands of devotees witnessed the trial round of the newly-built
golden car at the Annamalayar Temple here on Thursday.
The car, which has been built at a cost of Rs 87 lakhs, using gold,
copper and silver, was taken to the third prakaram of the temple,
amid chants of ‘Annamalayanukku arogara’.
Earlier, the car was taken in front of the flag mast and poojas were
performed, pouring holy water.
Chairman of the board of the temple’s trust AC Muthaiyah, HR&CE
Commissioner Pichandi, municipal chairman R Sreedharan, officials
and VIPs from the town took part in the function.
AC Muthiah felicitated the artisans of the ARC workshop, headed by
Ganapathy Sthapathy, who built the car, by garlanding them inside
the temple administrative office.
As the code of conduct for the forthcoming elections is already in
force, officials kept the celebrations low key.
